Traditional block carving

Traditional Block Carving
Block carving is an ancient Indian handicraft, an integral part of the block printing and dyeing process which involves carving fine motifs or patterns on wooden blocks. It is generally done on 'Sagwan' or 'Teak' wood using traditional Indian tools and techniques. The blocks are repeatedly immersed in dye and then pressed on fabric applying a certain amount of pressure to leave beautiful prints on the fabric. A design or a pattern can have multiple blocks carved with different negative spaces to have multiple colors or different elements of the motif printed on the fabric
